Wisp is served by 7 chairlifts, 2 ski carpets and 1 rope tow to get you up the mountain quickly on any one of the over 120 open days per year. Well over 100 inches of snow fall here annually. A great mountain for beginners and experts alike, Wisp has about a dozen easy trails for beginners, 13 blues for intermediates and 9 black diamond runs to challenge advanced skiers and boarders. Wisp also offers 5 terrain parks of varying difficulty from beginner to expert, and it also has a mountain coaster and a snow tubing park for non-skiers. Those looking for an intense cardio workout will find it at Wisp’s Nordic center. Wisp also offers lesions for those looking improve their skiing and boarding skills. There are a variety of programs ranging for private and group lessons, to clinics and weekly classes. Wisp is also a Burton Learn-To-Ride Center for both adults and children, so if you’re looking to learn how to rip on that new board or on those new skis, then Wisp is the place for you.
Canaan Valley Resort Located just down the road, across the boarder in West Virginia, lies Canaan Valley Resort. With 39 slopes and over 850 feet of vertical drop, skiers and boarders of every skill level can find something to challenge their abilities. The longest run stretches for 6,000 feet and Canaan Valley is one of a few resorts nationwide where you can experience the unique thrill of skiing at night. Canaan Valley Resort also has a ton of activities for the non-skiers in the family. Those on mountain activities include snow tubing and airboarding, a newer and faster highbred of tubing and sledding where riders are more in control and can actually stop on demand. Off mountain activities include skating in their beautiful covered outdoor rink that overlooks the valley and the Allegheny Mountains, giving skaters a breathtaking view. The rink also offers hot chocolate and an outdoor fireplace to help keep you warm. Canaan Valley also offers snowshoeing and cross country skiing for those looking to get their pulse up without flinging themselves down the slopes.
